The Director & Ian Pooley | Montreal, 2023 First a drummer in high school rock bands in a small city of the French Alps, Mathis aka The Director, also founder of Taylorhythm, Instagram's most revered 90s house music page, found his love for house music when discovering clubs in Montreal where he organized underground events and house parties with his former duo 55-80. After years of research and collecting vintage studio gear, The Director cemented a unique sound, directly inspired by 90s House Classics and La French Touch. Studying cinema for a few years, he quickly started linking with cinematography with music production; and found a formula for energetic, epic, emotion-filled music. Strongly influenced by rock and disco, The Director focuses with great detail into giving his music a feeling of authenticity that he finds missing in today’s charts: embracing happy mistakes, the spontaneous aspect of recording his music live, and bringing back vinyl records to the clubs and festivals of Paris, Montreal, New York City, Austria at Electric Love, etc. With a dedication to crafting a project that breaks the mold, The Director's unique way of doing things allowed him to get plays and share the stage with industry leaders like Barry Can't Swim, Boston Bun, Claptone, Dan Shake, Dombresky, Duke Dumont, Ian Pooley, Junior Sanchez, Mr. Oizo, Rico The Wizard (Crydamoure) ... ; and at festivals/medias such as BBC One Radio, Pacha Ibiza, Radio FG, Radio Rudina, Tomorrowland, …
