About
In 2023, Liza publicly came out as a non-binary lesbian with their poem called The Gay Miracle, published in Paper Magazine and paired with their euphoric joy grenade of a single Cheerleader. The single began the release of their 5th LP Utopian (Anti-Fragile) coined by Stereogum as a ‘celebration of change’ and by The New York Times as ‘empowerment core’. The record explores joy, grief and tenderness through Liza’s explorative signature of songwriting and production. With it, Liza plays with the healing mechanism of self expression and returning to oneself that seems to have bloomed from their sobriety and the tender documentation of the years leading up to coming out. Although the record was written and recorded while Liza was still closeted - both personally and publicly - it seems to have served as the breadcrumbs of becoming that Liza’s subconscious was leaving for them to truly understand and listen to when they were ready.
