Coon

American artist CNN Coon, born Devin McCoy is the latest of great rappers to come from Missouri City, most notably known to most in the Southwest Houston area as “Mo City.” The talented musician decided to go by the name people in the neighborhood he grew up in called him, so CNN Coon is his official stage name. McCoy started developing an interest for music as young as middle school. In high school he played football, but after graduating and getting into a bit of trouble, he decided to choose a career making music, it was at this time he decided to take it more seriously. McCoy names Houston rap superstar Lil Flip as one of his biggest influencers, he used to pay close attention to the way Flip creatively put words together in his freestyles, how his lyrics just seemed to flow smooth and naturally. He also names fellow Missouri City native rap legend Zro as another major influencer, he recalls watching him make it big time and is a huge fan of his raw rap style. California rapper Cellski who is Coon’s cousin also played a major role in influencing his musical style, the Cali native used to rap alongside Lil Flip and would bring Coon along with him when he was in the studio. McCoy used to try and mimic his clothing style. Coon started making music that talked about the struggles of the urban community. He loves to perform live on stage and meet and connect with people through his music.
