Cameron McGill & What Army

Cameron McGill is a songwriter and poet from Champaign, IL. For nearly two decades, McGill has quietly carved out a place for his unsettling and darkly romantic songs. With lyrics that read like travelogues of strange encounters, McGill’s songs are a confluence of storytelling, dreamscapes, and overheard conversations. His albums range from the Jon Brion-influenced pop of Stories Of The Knife And The Back (2004) to the troubadour musings of Street Ballads & Murderesques (2006). On albums Hold On Beauty (2008), Warm Songs for Cold Shoulders (Parasol, 2009), Two Hits and A Miss (2009), Deserters (2010), and Is A Beast (2011), McGill was joined by three incarnations of Cameron McGill & What Army before sitting down at the piano for 2013’s Gallows Etiquette. He was a member of Margot & The Nuclear So And So's from 2009-2014. 2020 saw the release of McGill’s chapbook Meridians (Willow Springs Books). His first full-length poetry collection is forthcoming from Augury Books in 2021.
