About
Szilvia Bognár is one of the most talented and successful performers of the young generation of Hungarian folk singers. For years she has been touring all over Europe with the Szájról szájra formation and the Makám orchestra. We have had the opportunity to listen to her beautiful voice many times as a guest of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble or at Nikola Parov's concerts. She has also performed as a partner of the world-famous opera singer Andrea Rost, and Márta Sebestyén has also honoured her with her attention. Since 2006, he has formed his own ensembles, featuring a selection of renowned Hungarian folk, jazz and world music performers. Their albums and concerts cover many genres, from renaissance songs to children's songs and progressive world music. The singer and her husband, Zoltán Kovács (composer, bass player), are blazing new trails in the ever-expanding world music scene in Hungary. All their formations are characterised by the extraction of folk melodies and lyrics from tradition and their independent revival in a modern musical context. Their current ensembles are the Szilvia Bognár Sextet and the quintet for children and family concerts. Their third permanent production, a trio with Nóra Király, is an adventure in the world of early music and folk music.
